To celebrate our 20th anniversary, the Architectural Heritage Center/Bosco-Milligan Foundation is inaugurating the Preservation in Action Award and calling for nominations. Our goal is to recognize those projects that demonstrated the cultural, historic, and economic value of historic preservation in our communities, and thereby inspire others to do the same.
| The award will celebrate outstanding historic preservation projects both large and small across all sectors: residential, commercial, government/institution, and community or neighborhood. Multiple awards may be presented in each category. | ![]() |
Criteria for the award are projects that reflect one or more of the following:
- Had significant impact and served as a catalyst for historic preservation.
- Demonstrated extraordinary authenticity or craftsmanship.
- Provide an outstanding example of creative problem-solving, adaptive re-use, persistence, or cooperation between parties.
- Took place between 1987 and 2007 in the greater Portland area (four counties).
- Preserved a home or building at least 50 years old.
Our panel of judges will include representatives from the public, private, and commercial sectors, and from the architectural and preservation communities. Preservation in Action Award recipients will be celebrated at a gala reception at the Governor Hotel prior to our “Riches of at City” Heritage Auction on October 18, 2008. Case studies of the award projects will be profiled on our website and in other materials. |
