The CENTRAL EASTSIDE contains a diverse mix of businesses, industries, makers, and creatives that contribute to a unique and innovative environment. The East Portland Grand Avenue Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is part of this area, and includes historic commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
The ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE CENTER is located in the heart of the district in a restored 1883 building. Our 100+ public programs per year—digital projects, talks and discussions, walking tours, exhibitions—serve the Portland metro area and explore how architecture intersects with broad-ranging issues like art and design; housing and affordability; the environment and sustainability; and social equity.
Guide to TOURING THE CENTRAL EASTSIDE
This map booklet is a creatively designed, user-friendly self-guided tour of the architecture of the Central Eastside. The tour journeys through the district’s unique historic architecture that has defined the district over time and new buildings that reinforce its current identity. Through the lens of the built environment, the tour highlights the evolution of the Central Eastside, from its roots in the 19th century to a growing center for IT innovation, maker spaces, and tourism.
