This fall (Oct 26-Nov 6, 2022) the AHC is participating in an annual Día de Muertos Observance of our neighboring nonprofit, Milagro Theatre, by hosting an altar honoring our founders Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan, who died in the 1980s of AIDS. Día de Muertos is a long-honored tradition with roots in Indigenous Mexican culture. For the second year in a row, Milagro Theatre, with support from Central Eastside Together, is partnering with Ideal PDX for the annual Central Eastside Muertos Celebration, and local businesses and non-profits are hosting altar displays created by local artists. The AHC altar created by artist Mariel del Rincon will be visible in the window of our storefront gallery from October 26-November 6. The AHC galleries will be open from 11-5 on October 29 during the Altar Bike Tour and November 3-5.
The 2nd Annual Central Eastside Muertos Celebration recognizes local businesses and Latine artists through a bike ride tour of altars in the Central Eastside. This celebration is brought to you by Milagro and IDEAL PDX collective, and made possible by support from Central Eastside Together, Columbia Credit Union, Miller Paint and Cargo. Participating businesses for this year include Milagro, Cargo, Miller Paint, Columbia Credit Union, Bar Botellon, Lippman’s, Guardian Games, Living Room Realty, River City Bicycles, Eastside Creative Arts Collective, Wild Shaman Rugs, Ice Queen, the Tree Farm Building, Architectural Heritage Center, and Classique Floors.
