Two important legislative bills that could have substantial positive impact on preservation are under consideration in the state Senate right now. The AHC has been working with its partners to develop these bills. Your support by March 26 (when the first committee hearing is scheduled in Salem) is critical and the AHC and its partners ask for your help.

SB 927 will create greater public participation in the stewardship of our historic resources by supporting a public process to replace Oregon’s unique and problematic “owner consent” system for the designation and protection of historic resources. Another bill, SB929, will extend financial incentives for the rehabilitation of older buildings by providing rebates for qualified rehabilitation costs and for seismic upgrades.

You can read more about both of these bills in a legislative alert prepared by Restore Oregon.

Here’s what you can do to help:

Submit written comments or testify at a Senate or House hearing by March 26. You can find out more about doing this at the Restore Oregon link above.

Email your Representative and Senator to voice your opinion about these bills. You can look up your state legislator here.

Sign up for the AHC’s e-news to receive ongoing communications about these bills.
