From the Desk of our Interim Director

Hello Friends!

Amidst the whirlwind of activity since taking the reins as interim Executive Director at the AHC, I’ve been slow to introduce myself. Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me aboard – I’m excited to be here!

Many of you may know me from my long tenure as Executive Director of Restore Oregon, the statewide nonprofit organization for historic preservation, and frequent collaborator on preservation advocacy, policy, and legal issues. When our previous Executive Director, Stephanie Whitlock, left after successfully shepherding the AHC through the pandemic, the Board asked me to come out of retirement and lead the organization through a period of transition. The goal is to ramp back up and evolve our advocacy and programming in more relevant and impactful ways.

Now is the time to better demonstrate how preservation and reuse is part of the solution to the challenges facing our city, from housing to equity to climate change.

Over the last couple months, we’ve assessed our operations, reorganized our staff, taken stock of tools and resources, plus reached out to you for input on what’s going well and where we can improve. Thanks to a robust response to our survey, we have very good data to inform our 2024 programming and beyond.

And now the work begins to launch the next generation, or “new era,” of the Architectural Heritage Center.

That work includes searching for a dynamic permanent Executive Director who we hope to have in place this spring. In the meantime, I’m delighted to add my energy to the forward momentum.
