  • Working with Restore Oregon and the City of Portland to secure funding to preserve the Billy Webb Elks Lodge.

  • Volunteering as a commissioner on Portland’s Historic Landmarks Commission and The Oregon Heritage Commission; as the former President of the Oregon Black Pioneers, and on the Board of Directors of the Bosco-Milligan Foundation.

  • Partnering with Constructing Hope and the Oregon Black Pioneers, she has also authored and co-authored two books on the history of Black Portlanders and Oregonians.

  • As a historian consultant, she has worked with the Architectural Resource Group to secure the National Register of Historic Places for several historic buildings associated with Portland’s African American history.

  • Moreland was one of the lead writers of the "Black Historic Resources in Oregon Outside of Portland, 1788-2002, Multiple Property Document (MPD)" outside of Oregon.

John Liu, Board President of the Bosco-Milligan Foundation and Architectural Heritage Center, noted that “Kim has been a great hero in the preservation realm for many years. Her work with the National Register of Historic Places has helped Portland preserve the places that make Portland unique, welcoming, and inclusive.”
