Liberty Door Knob
Door knob featuring the Statue of Liberty
In our large and wonderful collection of historic hardware is a cast bronze door knob depicting the Statue of Liberty. The knob was created by the Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company for the Liberty Building built in Buffalo, New York in 1925. How it came to be a part of our collection is a mystery still to be solved!
Linus Yale Sr. filed his first hardware patent in 1843 and partnered with Henry R. Towne in 1868 and was based in Stamford, Connecticut. The Yale Company is still active today based in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Liberty Building in Buffalo, NY was built for the headquarters of Liberty National Bank. The building still stands and is adorned with 2 statues of Liberty, one on each of its two towers.
