Architectural Plaster Ornaments

A category of the Jerry Bosco and Ben Milligan collection of artifacts that is surprising is the large number of plaster ornaments they salvaged. As fragile as they are, Jerry and Ben salvaged hundreds of plaster ceiling medallions, brackets and other ornaments. They would be very difficult to remove without destroying them.

Decorative brackets used in adorning structures date back to the origin of civilization.

Central ceiling medallions or roses date back to ancient Egyptian architecture. Greek and Roman structures continued to incorporate ceiling medallions in finer homes and palaces.

There was a resurgence of the popularity of ceiling medallions used in Victorian era architecture. Increased heavy ornamentation was back in style and plaster was an inexpensive way to add luxury to your home.

The Bosco Milligan Collection has a very wide variety of plaster patterns represented. Bosco and Milligan used their original salvaged pieces to create molds to cast new pieces. Jerry and Ben then sold their plaster reproductions in their shop at 3244 SE Belmont Victorian Facades.
